Fund Drive
The Annual Fund Drive is the leading fund raising effort for the Broomall Fire Company and is run entirely by members of the Company. The Fund Drive is the most effective and important fund raising event of the year because the overhead is minimal, with the only expenses incurred being the cost of printing and postage for the direct mail campaign. For example, approximately $27.00 of a $28.00 donation goes directly into the General Fund of the Broomall Fire Company.
For the past several years, the Fire Company’s yearly operating budget has been in excess of $220,000, not including the purchase of any apparatus. The Township of Marple supplies less than 1/3 of this amount, which means the members of the Company must raise the remainder of all funds to remain solvent.
The alternate to a volunteer fire company would be a paid, or partially paid Company. The effect on taxes would be staggering. We thank our community members and the business community for donating a major portion of the funds needed to run the Fire Company.
The Fund Drive begins with an initial direct mail donation request distributed in late January or early February. The request is $28.00 from residential units and $50.00 from representatives of the business community. Then, as a follow-up, a reminder is sent in April to those who have not yet contributed. A final request is mailed in early September, again, only to those who have not yet contributed, requesting support to help the Fire Company reach its fund raising goal. A team of members make every effort to maintain accurate records, but sometimes mistakes are made, and the members apologize if a resident receives more than one request after a contribution is sent.
